Growing up in Bolinas (CA), West Marin, I was always surrounded by beautiful landscapes, the ocean, and artists. While I was encouraged as an artist in elementary and middle school, it wasn’t until a few years ago that I decided to take it more seriously. A large part of that was the discovery of water colors! I enjoy the free flow of the paints and the various techniques that allow me to capture the subject the way I see it. When people see my paintings I want them to know what it’s like to be there; not only visually, but the sounds and smells as well. If I’m able to capture that place in time then it will always be there for the viewer.
Drawing and painting also serves a “release” and relaxes my body and mind. When I’m in that zone there’s nothing else I’m thinking of.
As an elementary school teacher I try to incorporate art into the day as often as possible. Tapping into a child’s artistic self at a young age can make a lifelong impact.
I’m still developing as an artist to find my own style and message, but that will come with practice and experience.
